About Bisque Traders

Bisque Traders was founded in the year 2000 by husband & wife team, Kathy and Ralph Brauer. The company was started as a result of Kathy's passion for homewares, combined with their mutual love of travel. This combination has lead to the relaxed, unstructured, global look that Bisque has become known for around the world as a leading brand in homewares and fashion.

The name BISQUE is a throw back to their previous venture, which involved years of producing ceramics in Australia. It refers to the first ceramic firing being a clean, white, textured-to-the-touch item, qualities we believe are shared by our homewares and furniture range.

Each and every piece is either completely unique or highly curated to create a relaxed feel to fit the Bisque aesthetic. While it may look as if these pieces are just thrown together, almost by accident to create the 'lived in' look, the highest thought and consideration actually goes into the process.

Kathy and Ralph's daughter, Hannah, has now joined the Bisque team as co creative director. Hannah's strength is fashion, which means they now boast their own fashion collections, or Hannah collaborates with their existing designers to create pieces that are exclusive to Bisque only.

Whether it's their furniture and homewares range, or fashion, Bisque has a philosophy of ethical sourcing. Each and every item that is sold is produced in accordance with world safety practices.

Bisque chooses to have their homewares and furniture mostly made by artisans who hand craft each piece. The Brauer family spend three months of the year travelling to see suppliers around the globe, and this gives them the opportunity to check on working conditions at the same time.

Bisque only sells ethically produced fashion. Their labels are all high end, the majority of which have been produced either in Italy or in woven by hand from their suppliers’ own home in India. No person has suffered working in a sweat shop producing any of their garments.

The Brauers are also very aware of the environment, and are making it their mission to educate customers to purchase less, but to choose quality instead. A terrifying statistic that has recently come to light is that in Australia, the average person only wears their clothes 7 times before discarding them. Australia is the worst offender, with 10% of landfill being attributed to fashion.

Ralph, Kathy and Hannah Brauer invite you to join them on their relentless travels around the world in the pursuit of sourcing the perfect Bisque piece just for you. Enjoy the ride!
